Mölndal
Our Mölndal research facility primarily centers around the cardiovascular and gastrointestinal therapy areas. We’re also strongly focused on the disease area of diabetes/obesity and are looking forward to establishing a Respiratory and Inflammation IMED at the site.
Our research in Mölndal has resulted in several important medicines, including the anti-hypertensive Seloken (metoprolol) and the proton pump inhibitor Nexium (esomeprazole) for treatment of peptic ulcer and acid reflux-related disease.
Furthermore, there are several global centers of excellence, working with our research centers around the world, such as the center for producing transgenic animals to create models of human diseases.

LIVING IN SWEDEN
Modern Sweden has a worldwide reputation for its progressive social welfare policies, which are a result of the country's strong industrial achievement and its sustained economic prosperity. Sweden has also carefully maintained the pristine beauty of its stunning natural environment and holds the only extensive wilderness area left in Europe. To help people enjoy these natural resources, the Swedish “right of public access” means that everyone has the right to be out in, and enjoy, the countryside.
Sweden is seen as a great place to live, partly because of its standard of living (one of the highest in the world) and the incomparable social services. Sweden ranks in the top five countries with respect to low infant mortality, life expectancy and safe drinking water. Almost all Swedes speak fluent English, making the transition to the country an easier one for foreign residents. In fact, many Swedish companies use English as their official working language.
Social Services
Sweden is a country that takes caring for children seriously. This mindset extends to supporting parents in a myriad of ways, such as with broad-stroke policies regarding generous and flexible parental leave. Employers are legally required to let parents of young children work part-time. Post-secondary tuition is free. Dental care is free until age 20. Even braces are free!
It is often remarked that Sweden has high taxes. But what must be taken into account is that the greater part of maternity/paternity leave, all-childcare, education (kindergarten to University), healthcare, care for the elderly, pensions and other forms of care are provided by the government through taxes. And all services adhere to an extremely high standard.
Culture
One of the greatest impacts Sweden has made upon the world is the export of culture and music. Sweden has gained an international standing that far exceeds what one might expect from a modestly sized nation. One source of this unusual cultural strength has been Sweden's historic position at the margins of Europe. Relatively isolated from the main currents of continental European cultural change, many of Sweden's artistic traditions developed their own rich and distinctive character. Drawing inspiration from folk culture, as well as from the stunning beauty of the land itself, these traditions have maintained a vitality and a bold simplicity that are now appreciated all over the world.
