A quick overview: Based in Wilmington, Delaware, AstraZeneca in the United States has research and development and supply facilities in Newark, Delaware and in Westborough, and Waltham, Massachusetts, as well as regional sales and centers throughout the country. Wilmington also serves as the global home for the AstraZeneca neuroscience commercial and R&D areas. Just outside of Boston, our Waltham location houses infection, oncology and discovery areas.

R&D Wilmington, DE
Conveniently located just 25 miles from Philadelphia, PA and two hours from Washington D.C. and New York City, R&D Wilmington is home to the AstraZeneca Central Nervous System (CNS) Discovery team, a center of excellence in psychiatry concentrating on developing therapies. Currently employing approximately 1,700 people, R&D Wilmington also has world-class research technologies and capabilities focusing on Lead Informatics (LI), Compound Management & Automation (CMA), and Assay Development & High Throughput Screening (AD/HTS). U.S. clinical research, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical and analytical R&D are also based at our Wilmington site.

R&D Boston, MA (Waltham)
Situated in Waltham, Massachusetts just outside of Boston, R&D Boston is in close proximity to more than twenty hospitals, over a hundred colleges and universities, and more than 300 biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The site currently employs approximately 400 people and is focused on discovering innovative new therapies to combat cancer and infectious diseases, two of the world's most life-threatening illnesses. It's also home to one of AstraZeneca's Global Discovery Informatic Centers.

Newark, Delaware
AstraZeneca's U.S. supply and manufacturing division, located in Newark, Delaware (just 13 miles from Wilmington) opened in 1971. One of the first products produced at this facility was the popular antacid Mylanta. This facility houses some of the most advanced pharmaceutical production and technical support in the nation.The Newark Supply Site was awarded the ENERGY STAR for plants in March 2009. This award resulted from site improvements implemented as part of a five-year plan to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions, an AstraZeneca global goal for 2010.

Westborough, Massachusetts
Located in picturesque central Massachusetts, the Westborough site has evolved from primarily supplying parenteral (sterile injectable) products to becoming a multipurpose facility capable of supply and packaging of sterile injectables, topicals, and respiratory products. Over the years, many new technologies have been introduced to enhance production efficiencies and product quality.
The Westborough Supply Site was awarded the ENERGY STAR for plants in March 2009. This award resulted from site improvements implemented as part of a five-year plan to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions, an AstraZeneca global goal for 2010.
